History of the JWNZ Inc.

The Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. (JWNZ) was formed in 1983, from an amalgamation of the Jewellers Association of New Zealand Inc, formed 1944, and the New Zealand Horological Institute, formed 1936, and renamed the Watchmakers Institute of New Zealand Inc. in 1983.

The essential purpose of the Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. is to promote and to foster those persons and businesses involved in the Jewellery industry in New Zealand.

The Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. have representation from these specialist bodies on its National Council:

The Goldsmiths Guild of New Zealand - GGNZ
The Watchmakers Institute of New Zealand - WINZ
The Jewellery Industry Registration Board of New Zealand. - JIRBZ
The Jewellery Appraisers Society of New Zealand Inc. - JASNZ

These specialist bodies are involved in activities such as Industry Training, Trades Standards, Technical Training and Jewellery Appraising.

Those persons involved in the Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. include: Jewellery Retailers, Wholesalers and Manufacturers, Gemstone and Bullion Dealers, Watchmakers, Clockmakers, Engravers, Gem Setters and Jewellery Appraisers.

The Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. publish consumer brochures regarding what you should know about Diamonds, Coloured Gemstones, Gold Jewellery, Pearls, Watches and what is your Jewellery really Worth as well as guides to buying Jewellery and Jewellery Insurance.
