JWNZ Specialist Bodies

Watchmakers Institute of New Zealand

The Watchmakers Institute of New Zealand - WINZ - is one of two specialist bodies within the Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc.

Watchmakers and Clockmakers are an essential part of the Jewellery industry in New Zealand.

Brian Nairn, of Christchurch, confirmed this in his 1982 Annual report to the New Zealand Horological Institute. “Every member of the community needs to be able to record the time, which in turn entails a timepiece, which in turn requires servicing by a competent Watchmaker. Thus there will always be a place for a trained Horologist.”

These skilled tradespeople are responsible for keeping New Zealand’s timepieces in accurate working order.

The Watchmakers Institute of New Zealand promotes the training of apprentices and additional technical training of qualified tradespeople. This, in order to enhance and maintain the skills its members require, maintaining the ever-increasing range of timepieces both and new, available in New Zealand.

Jewellers Guild of New Zealand members have industry-recognised qualifications and agree to abide by the Jewellers & Watchmakers of New Zealand Inc. Code of Ethics.
